Autumnal Dreams

We have had a few really beautiful days here in Cambridge. This weekend Georgina Skinner joined me for a spontaneous autumnal evening photoshoot on Jesus Green. We spent an hour as the sun was setting playing around with different light and all the colourful leaves.

There was a small tree near the edge of the green which provided a nice framing. We experimented with backlight and having leaves in front of the lens to make the left side of the frame a bit softer.

Backlighting in profile. There is a fine balance between great light and lens flares.

Leaves are fun!

Running among the leaves. Autumn is my favourite time of the year when it comes to photographing with all the beautiful colours.

There is a nearby bridge, so we went there. By restricting where the light comes from we can create beautiful shadows on the face.

Looking out over the park. I like how the low light picks up the texture of the grass.

Back under the bridge again with the soft light.

A group of rowers passed by. Here and in the other photos I have darkened the left side of the photo a bit as there was a large difference in light between the two sides.

Leaning out over the railing to get this angle.

A more pensive look.

Walking back to the trees into the setting sun.

We found a streak of light between the trees and by having Georgina walk so that her shadow was over the camera we avoided lens flares.

Time really flies when you have fun. Many thanks to Georgina Skinner for joining me on such short notice.

“I Dreamed A Dream”

There was a time when men were kind
When their voices were soft
And their words inviting
There was a time when love was blind
And the world was a song
And the song was exciting
There was a time
Then it all went wrongI dreamed a dream in time gone by
When hope was high
And life worth living
I dreamed that love would never die
I dreamed that God would be forgivingThen I was young and unafraid
And dreams were made and used and wasted
There was no ransom to be paid
No song unsung
No wine untastedBut the tigers come at night
With their voices soft as thunder
As they tear your hope apart
As they turn your dream to shameHe slept a summer by my side
He filled my days with endless wonder
He took my childhood in his stride
But he was gone when autumn came
And still I dream he’ll come to me
That we will live the years together
But there are dreams that cannot be
And there are storms we cannot weather

I had a dream my life would be
So different from this hell I’m living
So different now from what it seemed
Now life has killed
The dream I dreamed
