One perfect rose

Yesterday Natalie Petrov and Nora Ullert joined me for a dance photoshoot at the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm. For those that do not know the motto of the university is “Science and Art”, very fitting. We met up just after one o’clock and went inside to find us an empty classroom to use. Despite it being Sunday the University was full of students working. We must have checked ten rooms all filled with diligent students before deciding to use the corridor instead. In the end we found us a free room after its former occupants had given up and decided to take a weekend.

Natalie Petrov in the corridor. Here I am leaning up against the wall to get the reflection in the glass door.
There were some great windows in the classroom. Here Natalie Petrov balancing on one foot.

Finding a title for the blog posts takes a surprising amount of time. For this we chose a title based on a poem by Dorothy Parker:

A single flow’r he sent me, since we met.
All tenderly his messenger he chose;
Deep-hearted, pure, with scented dew still wet–
One perfect rose.

I knew the language of the floweret;
“My fragile leaves,” it said, “his heart enclose.”
Love long has taken for his amulet
One perfect rose.

Why is it no one ever sent me yet
One perfect limousine, do you suppose?
Ah no, it’s always just my luck to get
One perfect rose.

The sky was covered with a thick layer of white clouds, which meant we got very soft light. Here Natalie Petrov.
Nora Ullert had brought a bouquet of red roses with her for the photoshoot. We put them to good use.
Rain of roses on Natalie. What might not be obvious from this photo is the pile of benches and chairs that were stacked in the other half of the room in order to create the empty floor space for these photos.
Behind the scenes shot of Natalie preparing to throw roses on Nora.
Nora getting pelted by rose petals.
One more rose rain photo with Natalie. If you ever do this, make sure you clean the floor before you throw the roses. That way you do not get so much dirt flying around when you do subsequent rose throwings.

After finishing photographing indoors we cleaned and restored the classroom to its former glory. We did contemplate leaving a few rose petals on the floor to make Monday morning’s students wonder what had transpired in the room.

We had planned to do a few sunset photos outside as well, but by the time we got out it was already too dark so we went hunting for light sources and found one in a doorway.
Last photo of the evening!

Many thanks to Natalie and Nora for a fun photoshoot!
