Lingua Franca

Jade Ribaud and Nora Thomasdotter from the Royal Swedish Ballet School came out to Näsbypark for a dance photoshoot. It was a beautiful but cold morning, so we did a few photos outdoors, before heading indoors to the Green Room. For those wondering, Lingua Franca refers to the fact that dance is a universal language that everyone can speak.

Nora Thomasdotter

My namn is Nora Thomasdotter and I am seventeen years old. I am currently doing my second year out of three at The Royal Swedish Ballet School (KSB) modern, professional education for dancers.

I have been dancing and moving my body with the music for as long as I can remember. Through my childhood up until now I have been dancing and experiencing different dance styles which I get inspired by everyday! I have been a part of the competing world for about ten years. I have gotten the opportunity to represent the Swedish national team at the European- and World Championships for seven years and won first, second and third place.

My biggest inspiration is the environment surrounding us! I love walking around and with all my senses get to know the place at that specific moment. To feel the wind, observe different trees making shapes, listen to the sounds the nature is creating, and so on. Getting inspired to experience and explore improvisation and composition of different kinds.

“My movements are my scream of freedom”

My name is Jade Ribaud, I’m 20 years old and I’m in the first and last year of education (International Dance Students Class) at the Royal Swedish Ballet School.I was born in south of France but I grew up in Sweden. I started dancing when I was 4 with ballet cause my parents are both professional ballet dancers. I was stealing my mum’s point shoes so I could dance like her. In my first year in primary school, I was dancing all the time so I was falling of my chair and my teacher thought I was crazy.. but I was not! I was just dancing because it was making me happy.

Michael Jackson was and is/will always be my biggest inspiration. Around the age of 13 years old I decided to start with jazz and hip-hop. I always got mesmerized by the way he could move and his presence on stage. I always knew I wanted to dance the same way.

Since last year was a really hard year cause of the pandemic; it really learned me to enjoy every seconds, every moments in a studio or especially on stage. Like many other dancers, we were not able to practice our Art anymore and it really made me realized that without dancing, what would I be? I can’t live without it.

So if you’re happy and you wanna dance, don’t be scared. Just dance!
