On Easter Monday I met up with Johanna Primavera, Silje Wøhni and William Säfström at Balettakademien for a dance photoshoot. We started in one of the dance studios on the first floor, using a combination of daylight and a speedlight flash with an octabox. Since we only had a simple tripod for the flash, the dancers took turns holding it up for each other, so we could vary the position of the flash.
Next we moved down into the big studio downstairs, which have a wall of big windows and a black backdrop. Here we shot exclusively with daylight.
While photographing in the big studio we noticed that it had started snowing outside. So we headed out for a little while for some improvised snow photos. We set the timer on the mobile for two minutes, so it would not get too cold, and then each dancer took turns.
Back inside in the warmth of the big studio again.
Balettakademin has this amazing round window that I have seen but never had the chance to photograph in. So we headed up there for the last set of photos to see what we could create.
Many thanks to Johanna, Silje and William for a fun photoshoot!
