Houghton House is located about an hour’s drive from Cambridge. The house was built around 1615 for Mary Sidney Herbert, Dowager Countess of Pembroke. In 1794 Francis Russell, 5th Duke of Bedford, stripped the house of its roof, and after that it started to decay. You can find more information on English Heritage’s webpage. Charlie Schoonman, Isobel Smith and I went there on an overcast Wednesday morning. The trees were yellow and orange with autumn leaves. It was a pretty great morning to be out doing dance photography.
We only had little over an hour at Houghton House before we needed to head back, since Isobel had a lecture at 12. It was a bit rushed, but I am happy with the photos we took. This is a place we could revisit!
