Inception of Motion

Yesterday Samuel Hillby and Maria Avatare took the train out to Näsbypark for a dance photoshoot. They arrived a bit early, and I woke up a bit late, so since I had not had time to take my morning walk I suggested we could start with a few photos down by the water. We had some fresh snow on the ground, and it looked beautiful, and both Samuel and Maria were up for the challenge.

When shooting in the cold you have to be quick, and make sure you have a plan before you start, as you only have a few minutes of shooting time. But it is a fun challenge, and you can get some spectacular and unique shots. We then headed inside to photograph in the Green Room.

Hi there everyone! My name is Maria Avatare, and I am a 19 year old dancer from Stockholm/Sweden. I thought I would tell you a little bit more about myself and my passion for dance.

At the moment I am part of a dance education at House Of Shapes, located here in Stockholm. We train in varied styles, everything from jazz, to ballet, to contemporary and hiphop etc…. My dancing journey started about 15 years ago when I was only 4 years old. Ever since then I have kept on dancing, which has developed me into the dancer I am today. I have always loved it, there is just something very special about dancing and exploring all these movements, feelings and shapes inside of you. Dance is a very pure and raw work of art. It is real, it is now and it has no rules. Maybe that is the reason to why I am addicted to it….

Hello everyone! My name is Samuel Hillby and I am a 20 year old dancer from Uppsala Sweden who has moved to Stockholm to pursue a dancing career! As a kid I always felt like I didn’t belong, like I was the odd one out. I tried a lot of different sports and activities trying to find a place where I fit in and had a purpose. Nothing really clicked for me until I found my way at 11 years old to a dance studio in Uppsala called Ekeby dance studio!

I was so relieved to have found my second home and met a lot of new friends who shared the same passion and soul for dance as I had. It gave me such a confidence boost since I didn’t really have a lot of friends at school at that time so I can truly say that the studio always has been my happy place! During my time in Uppsala I got to explore all types of styles such as Hip-hop, Jazz, contemporary, ballet and my favourite: tap dancing!

After graduation in 2020 I chose to actually give dancing a true shot as a career choice so I decided to jump on an education at Scandinavian Dance academy called Scandinavian dance education! The education really opened up my eyes to the dancing community in Stockholm and I fell deeply in love with styles that I didn’t even realised existed before exploring the Stockholm dance scene! After my year at SDA I chose to continue and broaden myself at another studio in which I’m studying at right now. At the moment I am part of a dance education at House Of Shapes located in Södermalm Stockholm which I feel is really taking me and my dance to a whole new level! In life I strive to feel alive and be the best self of me I can be and I know that when the beat of the music is being put on play I am exactly where I’m ment to be!
